We use Michal Prochazka at Pet DNA Services of Arizona. Michal is not only professional, but is a good friend and nice to work with. He gave me this preliminary information on Donny's (Chance of Gold's Don Juan) color genes: A/a = one copy of the dominant Agouti “A”, and one copy of the recessive non-agouti “a”. The “A” allele restricts the black pigmented hair to the points in EE or Ee horses (resulting in the bay color; however the horse may also be seal brown, because this test does not differentiate between bay and brown); no visible color effect in an “e/e” (red-based) horse. Expected to pass with a 50% probability either "A" or "a" to each foal. CR/cr = one copy of the Cream Dilution gene “CR”; depending on the base color, and in the absence of additional color modifying genes, a CR/cr horse can be either a Palomino (if chestnut based); Buckskin (if bay based); or Smoky Black (if black based). Expected to pass the Cream gene to 50% of the offspring. The other 50% will receive the normal, non-diluting version (cr) of this gene.
